Highway 2 Widening Project

The Highway 2 widening project is part of Commerce City’s capital improvement program. The project includes expanding Highway 2 from two to four lanes between E. 72nd and I-76 to provide a higher level of service, improve safety, increase vehicle capacity, and accommodate pedestrians, bicyclists and vehicles. Funding is made available through a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation and the City of Commerce City.

Construction began in October 2016 and is expected to complete in spring 2018 (weather dependent). Typical project hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. with night work to limit impacts when needed.

Traffic Impacts
The closures of E. 112th Avenue and Potomac Street will remain throughout the project. Crews are currently working on the west side of Highway 2 from E. 72nd Avenue to Quebec Parkway, and on the east side of Highway 2 from Quebec Parkway to E. 104th Avenue. Crews are grading the road and installing retention walls to widen the highway. Be aware of trucks entering the road and expect periodic delays and lane shifts/closures.

What’s Ahead - April and May 2017
Construction requires one-lane closures and delays along Highway 2 from E. 104th to E. 112th avenues. Underground utility work will occur between E. 96th and E. 104th avenues. Street lighting is being installed on the east side of Highway 2 and Potomac Street, north of E. 112th Avenue.
